Alright friends:  My computer does not have a functional fullstop (aka: period) button so I will be ending sentences from here onn out with a semi-colon;  Haha;

In any case, the last month has flown past; I am so happy that the holidays or holidaze as I should call it, is over;  Jamaicans definitely know how to party;  Quick update;  After the trip to Westmoreland featured in my last post, I came home and partied through Christmas;  There was Grand Market in Morant Bay which consisted of people selling things on the street all night long;  My sister Glecia and I went and it was the middle of the night before I reached Somerset;  Christmas day most people could be found in church, however, I was sleeping off the night before and calling home;  :-)   Christmas night there was a crazy dance party at the club in Mt Lebanus;  I didn’t get home till morning that day either;

Mr Rose painted our house on Christmas Day!

Glecia and me on our way to the Christmas party at the club!

So on the day after Christmas we had a supper at Auntie Julie’s across the river; Autie Julie is Mrs Rose’s sister;  I wasn’t a part of the gift exchange this year but next year I look to be in it;  And the next day we celebrated Boxing Day, a Jamaican holiday;  I traveled with Mr Rose that day to Spring Garden, St Thomas to a family gathering of his family;

The next couple of days were pretty chill, until January 31, when I traveled to Portland to visit Brie;  Val came too and we went to a stage show on New Year’s Day to see some famous dancehall artists like Beenie Man, Mavado and Popcaan;  Youtube them!

Me and my besties soaking up some sun on New Year's Day!

After three days of sun with Val and Brie I came back to St Thomas rejuvenated and ready for work;  In the first week of the year I finished my trimester report for Peace Corps and cleared land and planted seedling trays for my new garden plot;  Pictures to come once things start to grow;

On Friday, popular musician Busy Signal came to Somerset to film a music video;  Not sure what the song is but it must be about building fires, washing pans, and sweeping his yard;  I know it also has something to do with a girl because there was a girl there;  In any case, it will be interesting to see our beautiful river in the video and who knows maybe he’ll want to include a video clip of the white girl so I’ll keep you posted!

Busy and me at the video shoot!

On Saturday I traveled to Bath fountain, also in St Thomas to enjoy the natural hot springs with my friend Stacy and her boyfriend and sister;  We hiked to the top and received massages from the rastamen;  No worries, anyone who comes to visit will get to go too;  It’s definitely an experience;

Stacy and me getting massages, complete with aloe and pimento oil!

Stacy's boyfriend Ca enjoying a massage!

Even the babies got massages!

So today is Monday and I rode my bike to Morant Bay to come tef internet all day at the RADA offic (think Cooperative Extension office) where fellow volunteer Kyle works;  So that’s an update!  I have to be going since I have a 15 mile trip on my bicycle back home and I need a haircut so I must find someone to give me a trim;  Wish me luck!

peace and love!

    You know I have a comment!!! Sounds like soooo much fun for the Holidays!!! So glad you are staying so busy, has to make things better…when you talk about traveling do you bike or ride a bus, somehow I have missed that part.. Bobby saw your Mom today and she said Papaw was better, he will be fine, just a slow heal. Maybe you have heard by now, but Gary Ishmael passed away -heart attack. The county is very sad right now. Around 3000 people went thru the visitation line. Been a rough day and reading your page makes me smile and I thank you for that. Guess that’s all for now, take care of you, love Karen

    Sarah, it is a pleasure reading your blog. My wife and I are pre-service PCVs and we will arrive in Jamaica in mid-March. She and I are both under the Green Initiative. I will be an Ag Promoter and she an Agribusiness Development volunteer. I am serving under the Peace Corps Master’s International program so I will be researching and writing my thesis based on my project(s) there. However, judging by your blog, I don’t know where I will ever find the time to get the thesis done! It sounds like you are doing great work!

    • Thanks so much for reading Kevin! And I appreciate your subscription. I’m not sure if my blog really shows you the work side of my job because sometimes I feel like I am not doing much other than hanging out. I have been reminded though that one of the main goals of PC is to just live and be yourself, so long as it is an honest and appropriate representation of the U.S. Having said that, I am so excited that you and your wife are coming. I notice that you have an A&M email. My master’s is from Oklahoma State so I feel like we have that Big 12 connection. I won’t say anything about how you also attended the other OSU, having received my bachelor’s from the University of Kentucky, but welcome to PCJ just the same. If you have any questions about projects or housing or training or anything that pops into your head! Good luck in the next few weeks! Can’t wait to meet you!
